History
Sonce.net was one of the first companies to deal with the Internet professionally. The company was founded as a result of co-operation between entrepreneurial pioneers who saw the future and virtually limitless possibilities of communication over the Internet.
FoundersIn 2000, Tadej Zajšek already had a long history of dealing with new technologies and media, and it was not difficult for him to persuade his colleague, the systems analyst Jureta Čelešnika. Another founding partner was Tomo Glažar, who was always full of ideas relating to project sales. As a designer was required for the initial projects, Mitja Grebenjak became the company's first associate partner.
First Clients and the Big Leap
The first client was the ABB company, an international company, for which Sonce.net created a local website. In 2001, the absence of digital strategies among global players became obvious and trust in local decision-makers resulted in the company’s great leap, which launched Sonce.net into a group of market leaders. Sonce.net designed the digital presence concept for Citroen Slovenija, which was well ahead of its time and, even today, serves as good example of a well-established internet presence for many large companies. And so it began. The Internet advertisements for Citroën were created using technology to create unforeseen possibilities that had never been seen before, winning numerous awards in the process.
Winning Awards and Upgrading the Team of Internet Experts
Sonce.net's long-term vision of development is demonstrated by the fact that one of the clients who ordered the advertisement that won Sonce.net its first award (SOF Gold Award for 2001) was Zoran Trojar, the man who later became the company director.
A series of awards for clients such as Mladina and Maechtig Vrhunc Arhitekti
was followed by the first international awards won by the company for the Citroën advertisements. The company kept growing and made its way in a difficult market, where most potential clients did not know the difference between a two-dimensionally perceived website and a printed advertisement, which is also two-dimensional. Meanwhile, the company was joined by Zoran Savin, an expert who was able to see the Internet from the aspect of its content and promotion. Already an active member Internet Advertising Bureau Europe international organisation and head of the Internet Section at the Slovenian Media Association, he was actively involved in the formation of the Slovenian and international Internet scene.
New Managerial Power and the Period of Rapid Growth
With the rapid growth of the company, the enthusiasts who had established the company faced the need for management know-how in the process of running a company which, although they were experts in their own fields, they lacked. The owners of Sonce.net therefore decided to engage Zoran Trojar, a skilled manager with extensive experience in marketing, media, advertising and the Internet. The almost ideal combination of different types of know-how in the company resulted in a strategic decision to move away from the general public perception of the Internet, which viewed this media mainly as a computer area. Good knowledge of media, advertising, marketing and technology bore logical results: the company used its top knowledge of Internet technologies to support both marketing and advertising activities. Sonce.net is a digital marketing company providing its clients with everything they need to establish a successful Internet presence in the digital world. It is therefore a one-stop Internet (digital) shop.
In 2006, the company began to expand rapidly; the number of employees and associates grew from 12 at the beginning of the year to nearly 50 at the end of 2008. Moving the company premises to another location in the summer of 2006 quickly proved to be insufficiently ambitious as the level of growth surprised the founders themselves, so the company’s location was moved again in the summer of 2008.
Company’s Own Technology Development
The company’s owners, who all still hold key positions in the company, were placing their hopes on the development of company's own technology, especially the content management system (CMS).
At the time of open source solutions, this type of decision was risky, but proved to be a correct one: the ability to adjust development to the needs of the market, greater flexibility in the end products, better security for clients and more reliable and affordable product maintenance provided by UrednikTM are the main advantages of the CMS development. In fact, Urednik™ is more than a content management system. It is a website management system.
Its importance has been recognised by big clients with complex requirements, and it was thanks to Urednik™ and the network of the company’s contacts that Sonce.net concluded a business deal with Island Global Yachting in 2006. This company deals with marine management, especially marines housing luxurious yachts over 30m, their goal is to have 200 marines under its management. They found that Urednik™ best suited their needs for CMS, while the concept of the quick and inexpensive introduction of a website for every marine, which was prepared by Sonce.net, persuaded them to sign the contract.
In October 2008, three companies from the five largest groups of companies were among Sonce.net’s clients.
Establishment of the Senca.net Subsidiary
In view of expected growth in Internet investment, Sonce.net decided to enhance the business activities it carried out for its clients in autumn 2006.
The neutral planning of investments into Internet media and investment optimisation, supported by suitable data and analysis as well as good knowledge of the media were the characteristics which helped Sonce.net to convince clients to entrust it with their media budgets. Sonce.net did not form its own media network. Instead, it plans neutrally and maximises results with regard to the advertiser's investment.
In the summer of 2007, this activity was separated into the subsidiary company of Senca.net, which was set up to develop services related to promotion of Internet media, such as online clipping, digital PR, community management, etc. In 2006, Sonce.net also became a distributor for the most advanced advertisement serving software called Open AdStream which is provided by the 24/7 Real Media company, a leading global player in the industry.
The Solar System – A Universe of Trademarks
In addition to its own CMS system (UrednikTM) and the Senca.net subsidiary company dealing in Internet media promotion, Sonce.net has also developed the trademarks of Simplnet, Event manager, MyPartyFusion and OZI in line with its policy of providing its clients with everything they need to establish a successful Internet presence.
The Solar System, a universe of the Sonce.net trademarks, therefore unites advanced and specialised services and tools distinguished by the quality, knowledge and priceless experience of the Sonce.net experts.
