Extranet
An extranet provides access to different contents for registered users. It is a frequent method of protecting or supervising access to content and functionalities which are of a special nature or designed for specific target groups.
An extranet also facilitates one-to-one communication with its registered users and grants users with individual privileges according to their status or nature. An example of 'need to know' amongst registered users are automotive journalists who are
provided with classified information before it is made available to the general public. Other examples would be contents found in internet media which are limited to anonymous users, whereas registered users, and possibly clients, can access the complete contents and enjoy further interaction (e.g. posting comments, registering for newsletters, etc.).
